Somatic Pilates

What is Somatic Pilates?

This is not another repetitive exercise method to ‘get fit’, this is a learning experience in how to move better to change old habits of movement to create ease, strength, flexibility and agility of movement through the Feldenkrais Method. This is a unique method of ‘sensory learning in how to move better to have a healthy body and mind‘ through guided instructions that emphasize the ‘ internal connection’ of the body and mind’ that results in everyday better movement, improved posture, reduce pain, relief from back pain and work-life stress.

Somatic Pilates can be a stand-alone and alternative approach to health, fitness and wellbeing. It is a powerful and effective method of verbal guided instructions that help you to think, observe, sense, feel and listen to the internal connections of the body to find new ways of moving with less tension and stress.  This leads to improvements in back pain, neck, shoulder, hip issues and can benefit walking, running, athletics, swimming, martial arts and other sports.

This method is for anyone who wishes to carry out their everyday activities with more ease and efficiency. Rather than teaching ‘the right ‘ way to move you are provided with ‘more choices’ of what is right for you. There is no competitive element or judgement in this method, it is an integrated therapeutic practice that creates lasting change. The method can deal with a variety of other conditions. It is helpful for joint pain, poor mobility, lack of coordination and ‘work-life stress’ and for those who wish to stay fit and healthy.
